The ski patrol uses the dogs to search for avalanche victims on the occasion of a slide, but the dogs are a source of companionship and comfort as much as anything. Ellie was a quick learner, with a solid search drive and keen nose. And she loved powder days. She was a driven little dog and on the job until the end. She was also a great family dog, beloved by Belle and Matthew, the Richard children. She is survived by her sister Dulce, who still plys the trade for the Telluride Ski Patrol.
